Das Boot (1981) - Director's cut. 209 minutes. long, epic tale of the 2nd world war seen from within a german U-boat submarine. the view though is from a german side for a change, the viewpoint still is american (or more correctly non-german). one of the most authentic war movies. melodramatic characters and performances. superb camerawork. dir by wolfgang petersen. both engrossing and boring at times. successfully evokes a feeling for futility of what happened. dubbed from german.

DVD. 6.5/10. R-L1V1S0. imdb
